How to Use the Rank Tracker

The Rank Tracker monitors where your client's website ranks in Google for specific keywords — and tracks changes over time.

Getting Started

  1. Go to Rank Tracker from the SEO tools section
  2. Enter the client's domain
  3. Add the keywords you want to track (you can paste a list or add them one at a time)
  4. Select the target location (city, state, or country)
  5. Click Start Tracking

What You See

For each tracked keyword, the Rank Tracker shows:

  • Current position — Where the site ranks today (1 = top result)
  • Previous position — Where it ranked at the last check
  • Change — Up, down, or unchanged (with the number of positions moved)
  • URL — Which page on the site ranks for that keyword
  • Search volume — How many people search for this keyword monthly

Reading the Data

Green arrows (↑) — Rankings improved. The site moved up in search results. Red arrows (↓) — Rankings dropped. Investigate why — was content removed? Did a competitor publish something better? Gray dash (—) — No change. Stable is fine for keywords already in the top 10. For lower rankings, it means your SEO efforts haven't taken effect yet.

Tracking Over Time

The Rank Tracker saves historical data. Click any keyword to see a chart of its position over the past 30, 60, or 90 days. This shows:

  • Whether your SEO work is actually moving the needle
  • Seasonal patterns (some keywords spike at certain times of year)
  • The impact of specific actions (e.g. "we published a blog post on March 1 and rankings jumped on March 15")

How Often Rankings Update

Trovn checks rankings automatically on a regular schedule. You can also click Refresh to run an on-demand check.

Tips

  • Track 10–20 keywords per client — Too few and you miss the big picture. Too many and you drown in data. Focus on the keywords that matter most to the business.
  • Include branded and non-branded — Track "Joe's Plumbing" (branded) and "plumber Austin TX" (non-branded) separately. Branded should always rank #1 — if it doesn't, something's wrong.
  • Share with clients monthly — A simple "your rankings this month" email keeps clients engaged and shows the value of your SEO work.
  • Pair with SEO Analyzer — The AI Strategy Brief tells you which keywords to target. The Rank Tracker tells you if it's working.
