A competitor scan crawls competitor websites and extracts everything Trovn needs for the AI comparison.
Step 1 — Open Competitor Intel
Go to Competitor Intel from your dashboard.
Step 2 — Enter Your Client's Domain
Enter the client's website URL. This is the baseline — the site everything gets compared against.
Step 3 — Add Competitor URLs
Add up to 3 competitor URLs per scan. Pick the client's direct competitors — businesses in the same industry, same area, same target customer.
How to find competitors:
- Ask your client who they compete with
- Search Google for the client's main keywords and note who ranks on page 1
- Check the SEO Analyzer gap report for domains that outrank your client
Step 4 — Run the Scan
Click Run Scan. Trovn crawls each competitor site and extracts:
- Tech stack — What CMS, frameworks, analytics tools they use
- Design patterns — Layout structure, color schemes, typography
- Content structure — Page count, blog presence, content depth
- SEO signals — Title tags, meta descriptions, heading structure, schema markup
- Features — Contact forms, chat widgets, booking systems, reviews, social proof
This takes 30–90 seconds depending on site size.
Step 5 — Review Raw Data
After the scan completes, you'll see a side-by-side breakdown of each competitor. This is the raw data — useful for a quick glance, but the real value is in the AI analysis (next article).
Tips
- Scan direct competitors, not aspirational ones — Comparing a local plumber to a Fortune 500 website isn't useful. Compare against businesses the client actually loses deals to.
- Re-scan quarterly — Competitor sites change. A quarterly re-scan keeps your data fresh and shows clients you're monitoring the landscape.
- Use all 3 URL slots — More competitors = more data points = better AI analysis. Don't leave slots empty.
